Artist Bio
I am a South African artist and graphic designer based in Johannesburg. After completing my high school education in Bloemfontein, I enrolled in the Central University of Technology in the Free State. There, I focused on printing processes and excelled in my studies, graduating as one of the top students in my class with a National Diploma in Fine Art. During my time at the University, I received recognition by achieving top-three placements in both the GBV Art Competition in the Free State and the Freshford House Art Competition.
Moving to Johannesburg, I embarked on a career in the design industry, specialising in graphic and content design. However, my primary focus remains on fine arts due to her deep-rooted passion for the field.
My artistic style centres around the use of colour to convey emotions across various traditional mediums. I developed a keen interest in exploring emotion and expression within my art. My approach involves capturing subjects not as they appear but as I perceives them, emphasising the emotional aspects. I draws inspiration from expressionism and impressionism, which have greatly influenced my work. Although I preferred genre is portraiture at the moment, I also finds appreciation in city-scapes, landscapes, and life scenes, each with its own distinctive undertone. My work as a visual artist incorporates a diverse range of media, with oil paint on canvas being her primary choice but I thoroughly enjoys working with charcoal, pencil, pen, and print-making techniques.
Constantly seeking new avenues for growth, I am an avid experimenter and learner. Influenced by human nature, architecture, the natural world, rhythm, perspective, and chiaroscuro (the interplay of light and shadow). According to her, the foundation of her art lies in exploring various modalities that effectively convey the messages she wishes to visually communicate.
Daumier, Monet and Munch rank among Jeanette's favourite artists, but she has recently developed a profound appreciation for the works of Marlene Dumas and Yayoi Kusama. As she continues to evolve as an artist, we eagerly anticipate the captivating creations she will unveil in the future.
